The Outdoors:
Areas worth visiting are-
Forests such as the Kaudiya Forest (3 kms), Rani Chauri Forest (22 kms), Dandachali Forest (21 kms) and Batwaldar Forest (10 kms) The Tehri Dam (33 kms) is the highest dam in India and one of the tallest in the world. It is built on the River Bhagirathi is 260.5 metres high and 575 metres long. It is definitely a landmark project high on the must visit list.
Chamba (12kms) is a town in Tehri Garhwal located at a junction of roads connecting Mussoorie and Rishikesh with New Tehri and Tehri Dam. Rapid development has seen apopulation growth from approx 6500 to over 30,000 in the last decade. Kanatal is located halfway between Chamba and Dhanaulti.
Dhanaulti too is a small hill station 24 kms from the popular hill station of Mussoorie, and 12 kms from Kanatal. It is situated at an altitude of 2286m, and is known for its alpine forests of Deodar, Rhododendron and Oak. Host to two ECO Parks “Amber” and “Dhara” that are its main attractions, the adventure sports available include the Flying Fox and Burma Bridge.
Mussoorie also known as The Queen of the Hills is a mere 40 kms from Kanatal and makes for an ideal day trip. Amongst other activities, nature walks, waterfalls, lakes, temple visits a botanical garden, India’s first Tibetan Temple, a cable car to access Gun Hill, schools and monuments, old Christian churches dating back to the early eighties make for an interesting sightseeing day out.
Haridwar

Surkanda Devi is a revered Hindu temple situated 6 kms from Kanatal.
It is at an altitude of about 2,757 metres and offers a 360 panoramic view of the Himalayas to the north, and certain cities to the south like Dehradun & Rishikesh.
The Ganga Dussera is a major festival celebrated every year between May and June.
